“Cloete’s Pass lies on the gravel Regional R327 road through the Langeberg mountains between Van Wyksdorp and Herbertsdale in the Western Cape province of South Africa. The pass, built in 1850, and the nearby Cloetesberg were named after the Cloete family who owned ground in the area. The roads are in good condition (Oct. 2012) and the pass is well worth visiting due to numerous flowering plants and beautiful views over the valley. The ruins of toll houses and blockhouses built by the British during the Anglo-Boer war, can be seen on this road.” - Chris Smit, 2012/10/29
