Next to Table Mountain lies the interestingly shaped slope called Lion's Head, originally called 'Leeuwen Kop' by the Dutch Settlers. During hikes to the top of the slope, views of Robben Island, Cape Town, Table Bay and the Atlantic Ocean offer perfect picture opportunities and a drop-off point for paragliders. The approximate two to three hours' climb of gravel road and rocky single track winds around the Lion's Head to an area where the rockface is extremely steep and necessitates making use of chains next to the path. Although Lion's Head is a popular site during full moon, visitors should be aware of possible muggings and bear in mind that the route is not suitable to elderly people or children. Full moon hikes are special as you will have a view of the sun setting on the one side and the moon rising on the other.

“Lion's Head is a 670 meter high mountain peak, part of the Table Mountain National Park near Cape Town, South Africa, between Table Mountain and Signal Hill. The peak, together with Table Mountain and Devilâs Peak, forms part of a dramatic backdrop to the city of Cape Town” - Chris Smit, 2010/03/28
