Genadendal means "Valley of Grace." Visit the oldest Mission Station in South Africa, with its beautiful setting at the foot of the Riviersonderend Mountains about 30 km from Caledon. A village and museum. It is believed to be the oldest Moravian mission village in Africa with church buildings and a school dates back to 1738. Some of the features which make it unique are the original Moravian mission church houses the oldest pipe organ in South Africa, the old bell in front of the church and huge oak trees. The museum is run as a community project by the locals. Enjoy hiking in the small town as well. An admission fee is payable by all visitors to the square. The admission fee allows you to visit all the historic buildings on the Church Square which include the Printing Museum, Old Watermill, Pottery Studio and Cottage Museum. .
