Situated in a beautiful valley in the Cape Winelands, this town is well known for international cuisine and wines. The mountain slopes are covered by vineyards. The French Huguenots brought with them their french wine and culture. Accommodation ranges from auberges', guest houses, cottages to wine farms. Franschhoeks' main street is lined with coffee shops, restaurants, arts and crafts shops, antique shops and galleries. This is the gourmet capital of South Africa, with some of South Africa's top restaurants. Franschhoek has many wine cellars, small boutique wineries and large cellars. Organized tours and conducted tastings can be arranged.
