The sand track that hugs the coast from Kleinsee to Hondeklip Bay, passes through a section that has been declared a nature reserve, and requires "permission". There are some new mining concessions along the coastal route and access requirements can change at any time. (You can try to contact the Strandveld Conservation Club for permission to enter: +27(0)27 877 0028 / +27(0)76 642 0868).
From Kleinsee there is a very badly corrugated road connecting with the R382 from Springbok to Port Nolloth – this road is not recommended for sedans. (2018).
