Hermanus lies along the south coast of the Western Cape, about 115km from Cape Town. The coastal town is full of beauty and charm, with upmarket shops, great accommodation and endless adventure options. Hermanus is famous for its whales, and is the best land-based whale watching destination in the world. It is also home to the world's only Whale Crier, and in September they host the very popular Whale festival. Grotto Beach is the largest beach in town and has been proclaimed a world heritage site.

“Hermanus was first named Hermanuspietersfontein derived from Hermanus Pieters, a sheep farmer of Dutch descent, who farmed at a freshwater spring where the town is now sited.
The town was founded in 1855 and the name was shortened in 1904 after it was declared a municipality.
