Description

Originally the only inhabitants of Camps Bay were the San and the Khoi. Thus when Dutch Settlers arrived in 1652, the Twelve Apostles Mountain Range was still covered in forest and this hid lion, leopard and antelope from view The Khoi tribes remained on the mountain slopes, but were decimated by diseases brought by the settlers for which they had no immunity. Passed on from father to son in the Wernich family, the farm ended up in the hands of the widowed Anna Koekemoer who married a sailor called Frederik Ernst von Kamptz. From then on it was called 'Die Baai van von Kamptz', and then later simplified and translated to Camps Bay. Today, Camps Bay is a trendy smaller town set against the Twelve Apostles Mountain Range, where many of Cape Town's wealthiest residents own a home in the luxury suburb. Camps Bay boasts this along with one of the largest, most beautiful beaches, Camps Bay Beach, from which to enjoy the view of the mountain and ocean. Opposite the beach is a tree-lined promenade where visitors can enjoy the best in restaurants and bars, and wait for the time to come for decadent sundowners with a magnificent view. Conveniently close to the huge Mother City, Cape Town, Camps Bay offers its own accommodation, attractions, wellness centres and wedding venues.
