Barrydale is a village on the border of the Overberg and Klein Karoo regions of the Western Cape Province in South Africa. This small town at the foot of the Langeberg Mountain, which received municipal status in 1921, lies just off the scenic Route 62, about 200Km East of Cape Town on the way to the Garden Route/Cango Caves) Named after James Barry, an early settler in the Overberg, it is situated at the northern end of the Tradouw's pass which crosses the Langeberg to Swellendam. The very moderate climate has resulted in excellent wines and brandy being produced in the area. The Barrydale Cooperative Wine Cellar was formed 1940, and distillery set up. This Kelder today is the venue for the start and finish of the annual, very popular Tradouw's Pass Half Marathon. The town has kept it's timeless countryside charm, and is a hikers paradise. The steady climate results in excellent wines and brandy being produced.
