The large St Helena Bay is the only bay on the West Coast where the sun rises over the sea. If you are at Shelley Point, you can also watch the sun set over the sea. The town is 150km North of Cape Town and 70 km West of Piketberg St Helena Bay and Stompneus Bay lie on the southern shore of St Helena Bay. More than half the fish produced in South Africa, come from this area. There is also a mussel farm at Stompneus bay where the legendary Pieter Pieterse, spent many years of his life During the season when the snoek are running Sandy Point harbour is a hive of activity.
