Park Camp Xade Gate Campsites (1 - 5) (CKXAD1-5)

ID: w151493 View large map

Located in Botswana :: Central Kalahari
Category: Camping :: Park Camp

Booking

This is an undeveloped public camping site run by the Department of Wildlife and booking is compulsory. Xade camp is situated at the Xade Gate.

Xade is a great pit stop while travelling from Matswere gate through the park to the Khutse gate. It is also the only place in the Park where you can possibly fill up your water tanks.

There is an ablution block with showers and flush toilets at the gate, but often there is no water as the elephants damage the pipes.

Since May 2011 DWNP changed the ruling and now allows payment of entry fees at the gates again. When you pay you are issued with a park entry permit which serves as your official receipt. For more information on payment of park fees contact the DWNP at +267(0)686 1265 or +267(0)397 1405.

Reservations are mandatory.

Driving from Xade to Piper Pan took a traveller about 6 hours in April 2010, as it was pouring with rain. The track can then get extremely muddy, and where there is no mud, it will be covered in water.
In the dry season it can take anywhere between 3 and 6 hours as it's a very bumpy and rough track. (April 2010).

 Travel Tip!

Road can be very sandy during winter time. Xade is also an entry and exit point. You are no longer allowed to collect wood from the bush in the CKGR, bring your own firewood! (Oct-14).
