Sterkstroom (Strong Stream after the nearby Hex River) is at the foot of the Stormberg Range. In 1875 the Dutch Reformed Church founded the town, and in 1898 it became a municipality. In days gone by coal was mined but due to low quality this doesn't happen anymore. Visitors can look forward to visiting the Museum, nature reserves, the Marico Waterfall, go bass fishing, walking and hiking.
