Wartburg is a small town situated in the Umgungundlovu District Municipality. The town is also known as little Germany, because of its German heritage and history. Waterburg was first inhabited by German settlers in 1848 and named after the Wartburg Castle in Eisenach in Germany. The town still has a very large German speaking population. Waterburg has lots to offer. Perfectly set in an agricultural area, the town is surrounded by sugar cane fields and timber plantations. There are plenty of accommodation in and around the town for visitors. (May-16)
