The sandy landscape is unique and quiet. It offers a great escape from the city and a chance to really test your driving skill. This trail is all about sand. It starts off on the grounds of a dairy farm alongside a huge dam, which is also the site for the planned camping area.
You traverse a small stream, but don't be fooled by thinking it is easy! Then it's on through some bush and into the sand. Near the start there are some really enjoyable ascents and descents with one or two sharp turns that will really test your driving skills. There are escape routes if you prefer to miss these sections. The very knowledgeable trail guides are always more than willing to assist when it comes to the tricks of sand-driving. Some over-the-top ascents that descend immediately, without any view of the track ahead, will ensure that you are concentrating before heading on to Banggat. This is a small area, totally surrounded by sand, where the adrenalin hits new heights.
Choppie will first check to see if the area is drivable by dropping in and attempting to drive out. This is an ideal place for a lunch break as those wanting to prove their skills can 'play' while the rest watch. Then there some real dunes to transverse. These are the kind where momentum is the deciding factor of victory or broken ego. Be careful not to have too much momentum though as it is very easy to become airborne at the top, possibly resulting in a disaster. The roller coaster will provide the epitome of sand-driving, not having much space to gain momentum before the climb to the top. Once you get there, be careful of the cross-over that could send you all the way down to try again!
Langgat is another play area that will separate the men from the boys. The last section of the trail will take you out of the sand for some bush-driving. There is no accommodation on the trail itself. Camping is available at Oyster Bay Camp Grounds. These are privately owned grounds with facilities for caravans and tents, as well as chalets. (Information supplied by DriveOut Magazine).
Type of Terrain are forest and sand. Camping ground next to irrigation Dam, Also popular for bass fishing, can be access by normal car.
