Kongola is a small village located on the B8 national road between Otavi (750km) and Katima Mulilo (120km). Though the
capital of the Kongola Constituency, Kongola only offers basic facilities like a fuel station, wholesaler and craft shop.

Traveller Description

The Mashi Craft Centre is supplied by eleven community craft groups located throughout the Zambezi region (Caprivi). The crafters make a range of products including reed mats, baskets, beaded necklaces, woodcarvings, drums and fish traps. Pottery is a special attraction here, with unique pots sporting interesting pattern and firing techniques on offer.

Travelling Information

BORDER INFO:
North of Singalamwe you’ll find a border crossing into Zambia. This border post is for local vehicles and pedestrians - there are no customs facilities. If you wish to use this crossing, you’ll have to visit the nearest conventional border post and complete customs formalities related to bringing foreign vehicles into Zambia.

CULTURE:
You can visit the Namushasha Heritage Centre near Namushasha River Lodge. This is a cultural
village and museum where visitors can get an idea of the history, traditions and way of life of the people of the Mashi Conservancy. Entrance fees are N$80 per person (2017) which includes a guided tour with traditional dances.

EMERGENCY SERVICES:
There is no police station or hospital. Hospital and doctors are in Katima Mulilo.

FUEL:
Take note: Garage or Petrol cards will no longer be accepted as a legal tender for purchase of fuel, spares or repairs in Namibia.
Cash, Debit and Credit cards are legal payment instruments, but many fuel stations choose NOT to accept Debit and/or Credit cards. But generally credit cards are accepted at garages in bigger and touristy towns. Take extra cash with still in case!

SHOPS:
The local shop, Kaza Kongola, sells fresh bread daily, frozen meat cuts, basic groceries, cold drinks, ice and some liquor lines.
Megasave sells liquor.

TOW-INS:
No tow-in in the area but Polka 24hr services this area they are based in Okahandja.+264(0)81 129 7490.

TYRES:
Tyre repair is available at the Kongola Service Station.
