Description [ correction ]

In 1948 Willem van Coller bought 33 000 hectares of land to farm with Karakul. His wife named the farm Solitaire. He later built the small shop and petrol pump as well as a small chapel. He sold the farm in 1968 and today it is a popular stop-over for tourists to and from the Namib-Naukluft National Park. It currently features the only fuel station, post office, bakery and general dealer between the dunes at Sossusvlei and the coast at Walvis Bay, as well as to the capital Windhoek.
