The Table Mountain National Park was first proclaimed on 29 May 1998, when SAN Parks obtained the area from public authorities. The park will be expanded, and ultimately should cover more than 30 ha. For its relative size, the Cape Peninsula fosters the most different types of plant species in the world. Ferries are available to the old lighthouse at the tip of the peninsula, there are also walking trails throughout the park, and several beautiful picnic spots. They are motorbike friendly. (Jan-2012). Popular activities on Table Mountain include hiking, rock climbing and mountain biking. For sport climbing and mountain biking specific activity permits are required. Refer to the Sanparks website for more information.
