What is new on the T4A GPS Maps – Traveller’s Africa 11.05

T4A GPS Maps 11.05 will again be preloaded on a 2Gb micro SD card, ready for Plug & Navigate.

This SD card can be used on most map capable Garmin units.

The SD card also contains installation files for PC and Mac users who want to install the maps on their computers for trip planning or for transferring maps to older Garmin units such as the 276c, 76csx, eTrex, etc.

  • 711 544 km of tourist coverage fully routable
  • 105 481 points of interest
  • Most complete and detailed protected areas in Africa – 1451 parks in total.
  • Madagascar/Mauritius is a new addition to T4A GPS maps. The map is fully auto-routable and contains the major hiking trails. It has been compiled mainly from data submitted by the Mapa team, our conservation effort to map Africa’s protected areas. This is the first edition of the map, so the detail is limited; however it is surprisingly detailed for a first release.
  • Morocco has seen huge growth in data and has been made auto-routable. The major highway from Agadir through Marrakech and Casablanca to Fès is now included in the map.

  • West Africa has once again seen great improvements. With the previous release, the map was made routable for the first time. It now consists of an even denser road network especially in Ghana, Togo and Benin. A lot more POIs, including smaller villages, fuel stops and park administration POIs such as entrance gates, reception areas, camping sites and ranger posts, have been added to the map.
  • More than 3000 POIs have been added to the Western and Northern Cape map since the previous release!  Many of these are accommodation related.

  • Road data from a recent bike trip by members of the Tracks4Africa staff has been included in the maps. From this and other data submissions, the Zambia & Zimbabwe map’s road network has increased by a whopping 26%.

  • Angola is fast becoming a major tourist destination in Africa. Road detail on the Angola map has also increased a lot as a result of the trip. We receive many, high quality data submissions for this country and believe the T4A map provides the most accurate account of the state of the Angolan road network available.

  • Namibia and Botswana’s camping and lodging establishments are updated with accurate contact details, descriptions, facilities and activities on our Africa Travel Guide.  This is included on the SD card as a rich POI file (GPI format).
  • Support of Nuvi 2000 and 3000 series could not be confirmed at this stage.  To be prudent we recommend that T4A GPS are not used on these units until further notice.
