The Wondergat (Mystery Hole) is a sinkhole on the hiking trail leading up to Cornellskop, and the source of many legends. The hole is 4.5 m in diameter and about 20m deep. The Nama people call it 'Heitsi Eibib', meaning spirit or emptiness. It is believed that the sinkhole is the home of the 'Big Snake' who can transform into a young girl that lures men into the river and drown them. Other legends say that the hole either makes people disappear or, if they return to the surface, aged with wild terrified eyes and grey hair.
