The Theewaterskloof Dam is fed by a few east-flowing rivers, including the Riviersonderend River, and is situated 3 km south of Villiersdorp. It is the seventh biggest dam in South Africa with a capacity of 480 million cubic meters. The dam was completed in 1980 and is designed to supply water to the Cape Town Metropolitan area and the town of Villiersdorp. The tea coloured water gave rise to the name Theewaterskloof ('tea-water ravine'). It is a popular venue for water sport enthusiasts. The dam is known for its excellent Bass fishing but in recent years some very big Carp have been caught there. You can camp at the dam.
