Also called Skittery (ie. running tummy), Skitterykloof and Speserykloof Pass. The name 'skitterykloof' goes back a long way. In the times when the farmers from the Kouebokkeveld used to move their livestock to the Ceres Karoo area, at the start of the winter some of the bushes that are found in the vicinity of Skitterykloof had the effect on the sheep that their tummies started running, they had 'skittery'. It is believed that was the reason for the kloof to be named Skitterykloof. Like its neighbouring pass, Katbakkies Pass, the Peerboomskloof Pass was originally carved out by the local Khoi people as a cattle path. Farmers later used it as a wagon road to cross over the mountains from the Koue Bokkeveld to the Ceres Karoo. Only recently tarred and fairly short in length, it provides picture-perfect views of the open, rugged expanse of the Karoo. (Source: Mountain Passes South Africa).
