The Dutch Reformed Church bought the farm Phizantefontein from AE Loxton in 1899 and it was soon transformed into a settlement with a population of 150. It was originally built to serve the sheep farming community and is now one of the largest garlic producers. Within a year the first Dutch Reformed Church, school and hotel was completed. As the town grew a larger church was needed, for which the foundation was laid in 1925, and it is this church that still serves the community to this day.
