Christiaan Neethling Barnard is world renown for performing the world's first successful heart transplant at Groote Schuur Hospital. He was born and raised in the small town of Beaufort West where his dad was a preacher in the small church that now forms part of the museum.
The house next door in which the Barnard family lived, is also open to visitors and Barnards ashes was interred in the garden.
