Stellenbosch is situated 50km east of Cape Town, along the banks of the Eerste River. Stellenbosch is the second oldest town, founded by Simon van der Stel. Van der Stel planted a large amount of Oak trees, and thus Stellenbosch became known as the City of Oaks (Eikestad in Afrikaans). Stellenbosch is also home to the University of Stellenbosch which is internationally known and attracts students from across the country. Stellenbosch is well known as being the heart of the wine lands with its five wine routes and great scenery. Stellenbosch offers many activities, and places to see.
