Brandvlei, is a small town on the Sak River in the Boesmanland region of the Northern Cape, South Africa. It was named after 'Ou Brand', a 19th century trekboer, who camped there. Other farmers started settling around the huge pan and the village that formed, gained municipal status in 1961. Brandvlei is located in the Bushmanland, also known as the Dorsland. The region contains very little vegetation, primarily very low shrubs and yellow grass among a rocky desert kind of landscape.
