Goodhouse, is a small village on the Orange River, 100 km north east of Springbok, in the Northern Cape Province of South Africa. Goodhouse lies in the north-western corner of the Boesmanland region and is one of the hottest places in the country. It is named after the Khoi-khoi word Gudaos, a combination of 'Gu' (sheep) and 'daos' (path). The town developed around an old pont crossing which is no longer in use. The remains of the old hotel and grave yard, with WW1 graves are still visible. The pumping station at Henkries, supplies the towns of Steinkopf, Okiep, Springbok and Kleinsee with water. Most of present day traffic crosses the River over the bridge at Vioolsdrift, 50 km west of the town. Irrigation farming is practiced with water pumped from the Orange River. Dates are grown in the nearby Koo River valley The pumping station at Goodhouse, supplies the towns of Steinkopf, Okiep, Springbok and Kleinsee with water.
