You'll find Impalila Island at the most easterly tip of the Namibia's Zambezi region. This island is formed by the confluence of the Zambesi and Chobe rivers to the north and south respectively, and the Kasai Channel to the west. Its name means 'the far
away place' and it's here that four countries meet (Botswana, Namibia, Zambia and Zimbabwe); supposedly, the only place in the world where this occurs.
Once a military base for the South African Defence Force, Impalila island now forms part of the Impalila Conservancy. It's home to the Lozi tribe of Namibia who live in villages and settlements spread across the island. Although located in Namibia, the closest town to Impalila Island is Botswana's Kasane, and access to the island's lodges is by plane, or boat from the Kasane Immigration Office.
