Sandfontein Lodge and Nature Reserve, a nature reserve like no other. Unlike other nature reserves which invite dozens of people to visit at once, Sandfontein is designed with exclusivity in mind. A maximum of 10 visitors can enjoy the private, 81,000 hectare reserve at any one time, and scheduled tours are absolutely off the agenda.

Instead, nature-focused activities and excursions are crafted especially for guests, giving them the freedom to explore an area that's bigger than Singapore on foot, or whatever suits their mood. Guests can even request a private photo safari led by Sandfontein's personal guides who have spent time developing an affinity with the striking Namibian terrain. Sandfontein's guides also have a detailed understanding of the park's majestic animals.

On tailored tours of the park, guests have the chance to spot dozens of native species, including springboks, zebras, giraffes and ostriches. But animal sightings are a bonus, and the real beauty of Sandfontein is the scenery itself, with 25km of untouched Orange River frontage, fiery orange sunsets almost every evening and scorched, rocky moonscapes that extend as far as the eye can see. Guest accommodation is limited to four honey-coloured bungalows and one spacious suite; Sandfontein makes it easy for visitors to admire the ever-changing colours of Namibia's semi-desert landscape.

But with free Wi-Fi access, a brilliant-blue swimming pool and even a private airstrip which allows guests to fly direct from Cape Town, Windhoek and Upington, the reserve never feels far from modern comforts. Central to life at Sandfontein is the artfully designed lodge building, which has an inviting bar area and panoramic windows that overlook the distant mountains. Free-thinking couples love to spend evenings unwinding here with a bottle of chilled local wine, knowing that later, luxuriously soft cotton sheets will help to ease them into a heavenly sleep.

Kids adore Sandfontein too, whether they spend their time splashing about with new friends in the pool or learning more about the reserve's conservation efforts, they're sure to leave with precious memories.

Coming from Noordoewer you drive about 50 km North on the B1; then turn right on the D213, gravel road. Stay on that road until you come to a t-junction, turn right onto the D 208. From Karasburg being on the main road (B3) turn left coming from Upington or turn right coming from Windhoek at the corner of Bank Windhoek. You can't miss it! Drive out of Karasburg, at the four way crossing keep going straight southbound towards Warmbad, gravel road.

After about 8 km turn right onto the D208. Stay on the D208 until you turn left to 'Gaidip' onto the D292. Stay on that road for about 10 km - careful there are some tricky turns - and after going through a cattle grit and having a large quiver tree on your left, you'll see a small sign 'sandfontein' as well on your left. Turn left onto small farm pad. Stay on that road, it'll be another 40 min to the Lodge. You'll pass through the game fence and then please stay on the most obvious road which makes a slight right turn, you'll pass by a water hole and then the road keeps going slightly downwards.
