Maltahöhe was founded in 1899 by Henning von Burgsdorff, a former officer in the German Schutztruppe, the military force of the Imperial German occupation. The town was named after his wife Malta, while “höhe” refers to hill. Maltahöhe is located in the central to southern part of Namibia, close to the Swartland escarpment. The town features a few small shops, two petrol stations, and a hotel. The Maltahöhe Hotel was established in 1907, making it the oldest country hotel in Namibia still partially operating in the original buildings.
The hotel offers air-conditioned rooms or rooms equipped with a water cooler. Each room features a seating area, en-suite bathroom, and beds with mosquito nets. Facilities include an outdoor swimming pool, free parking, Wi-Fi, a restaurant, and a bar.
