The beautiful white building in Portuguese Neo-Gothic style, that houses The Natural History Museum in Maputo, was built in 1911 to house a school. In 1933 it was converted to house the Museum of the Province of Mozambique and in 1975 it was renamed The Natural History Museum. In 2013 the building was renovated and restored to its former impressive state, and is currently administered by the Eduardo Mondlane University. Its exhibits include demonstrations on animal migration, ancient pottery, fossils, mammal, bird and snake species and a small ethnology exhibit that includes photographs of faces representing different ethnic groups in Mozambique. A collection of elephant fetuses demonstrate the development of an elephant from 1 to 22 months. Adults: 50 Meticas per person, children 12-18: 10 Meticas, children under 12 free (Feb-18)
