CAR INSURANCE:
If entering Malawi, you have to buy car insurance at the border. (2020).
COSTS FOR ENTERING MALAWI:
You will need a Temporary Import Permits (TIP) for each vehicle & vehicle insurance. Insurance for small cars is approximately ZAR300 (plus or minus) & your TIP should cost you about ZAR210/ K10 000 per vehicle depending on vehicle specifications. (Jun-2019).
INFORMATION:
We have received a variety of reports that these borders are open 24hrs, but also that the Tanzanian border is open 24hrs and that the Malawi border is open from 06:00-18:00. Although the insurance guys only work in the day. The roadblocks haven't given any issues when you tell them that, and then getting insurance the next day in Mzuzu. (Nov-2016)
