Xai-Xai is a bustling town on the Limpopo River. It was known as João Belo until 1975. It is the capital of Gaza Province and has markets, shops, restaurants, bars, petrol stations, banks and a post office. The beach of Praia do Xai-Xai, approximately 12km from Xai-Xai, is a popular tourist attraction but you will need a 4 x 4 to gain access. A coral reef running parallel to the shore offers good snorkelling and protects the beach from strong waves. In addition, the Wenela Tidal Pool, 2km south of the town, includes a natural tunnel and blow hole that links the pool to the Indian Ocean.
