Bilene is situated on Lake Uembje. It is the closest Mozambican beach resort to Johannesburg and attracts many South Africans during the holiday seasons. Bilene serves as a good stop-over for those travelling to destinations like Inhambane and the Bazaruto Archipelago. Lake Uembje is an ideal family spot with its white sandy beaches and shallow calm water. Bilene is particularly popular as a water sport destination. Large populations of flamingos and various other water birds frequent the area in the summer months searching the shallow fringes of the water for food. Bilene has good facilities.
