The 700 000ha Rio Save was known as Safarilandia previously before Mozambique independence. It was rated one of the best safari areas in Mozambique in the ex-Portugese colony. It has been said it largely remains one of the areas that is unexplored.
The vegetation varies from open savanna in the south, to baobab woodland, to dense woodland in the north, and riverine forest. The wetlands include sandy rivers, lakes and marshland, with estuaries, lagoons, mangroves and beaches along the Indian Ocean seaboard. (Oct-18)
