The small village of Rakops, with its nearly 6 000 inhabitants, is situated on the Boteti River, west of the Makgadikgadi Pans.

Travellers wishing to overnight in the area can stay at Rakops River Lodge, a venue offering rooms and campsites on the Boteti River, or Xere Motel which is conveniently situated on the main road.

The availability of fuel in Rakops is unreliable and cards are not accepted as payment. Travellers are advised to fill all fuel tanks at Letlhakane or Mopipi, rather than relying on availability of fuel at Rakops.
