The small village of Rakops, with its nearly 6 000 inhabitants, is situated on the Boteti River, west of the Makgadikgadi Pans.
Traveller DescriptionRakops is the last stop for fuel and supplies before heading west to the Matswere Entrance Gate into the Central Kalahari Game Reserve. The track to the gate has deep sand in some places, so deflate your tyres. You can expect to encounter some black cotton soil during the rainy season. Only tow a trailer if you are experienced at it.

The availability of fuel in Rakops is unreliable and cards are not accepted as payment. Travellers are advised to fill all fuel tanks at Letlhakane or Mopipi, rather than relying on availability of fuel at Rakops.
