Khutse Game reserve is 2,500 square kilometres and a protected area with minimum development, except for the areas that have been made campsites. The camp has basic facilities that include a pit latrine toilet (longdrop), a bucket shower and a fire place. There is no running water and the camp is unfenced allowing animals entry into the campgrounds, so be alert.
Campsites must be pre booked through Bigfoot Safaris and a 30 percent deposit paid to secure your booking. When the booking is secure, Park fees need to be paid through the Department of Wildlife at central pay points or at the entrance gate to Parks. CAMPING FACILITIES:
Each campsite has got a bucket shower and a long drop toilet. (2016).
CELLULAR COVERAGE:
There is no network in the park and it is advisable to use a satellite phone. (2016).
ENTRANCE GATE TIMES:
The entrance gate opens at 06:00am and closes at 18:30pm.
FIREWOOD:
You are no longer allowed to collect wood from the bush in the CKGR, so remember to purchase your firewood beforehand! (2016).
FUEL:
There are no fuel supplies in the Reserve itself. There is a small filling station at Lethlakeng, the last fuel stop before you enter Khutse. So make sure you have enough fuel for travelling in the Reserve.
GAME DRIVES:
Night drives are prohibited.
SUPPLIES:
The small village of Salajwe just before entering Khutse has basic supplies and drinks for sale.
There are no shops in the Reserve itself.
VEHICLE INFO:
You need to have a reliable 4x4 car.
WATER:
There is no water at the campsites, there is only water at the entrance gate. Bring enough drinking water as the water in the park is salty but it can be used for bathing, cooking and washing.
Bring containers to fetch water in the gate then take it through with you onto the campsite.
Borehole water available at the gate but visitors are encouraged to bring their own drinking water. You are no longer allowed to collect wood from the bush in the CKGR, bring your own firewood! (Oct-14).
