Koffiefontein means 'Coffee fountain ' in Afrikaans. The town is situated within the Free State province along the Springbok route. The town got its name from the transport riders who grinded their own coffee beans and mixed with water from the natural spring water to make the coffee. This became a stopover for the riders travelling between the coast and the diamond fields. In 1879, the riders discovered diamonds at the natural springs and mining began. To date some defensive fortresses, monuments, museums and concentration camps are evidence of a heated war during the World War 11. (Sept-13).
