Shimuwine is located close to the Letaba River. The word Shimuwini is a Shangaan word meaning 'Place of the Baobab Tree'. The reason for its name is that the Letaba River where the cottages are found is lined with these huge Baobab trees. They estimate one of these trees to be more than 2000 to 3000 years old. Shimuwini is one of the most modern bushveld camps in the area, it was completely rebuilt after the floods of 2000. Facilities like a public telephone, mini shop and also a boma where you can relax and have a barbeque.

“Situated about 50 kms from the Phalaborwa Gate in the Kruger National Park, Shimuwini is a Shangaan word for "Place of the Baobab Tree". The Bush Camp lies on the banks of the Letaba River, at the Shimuwini Dam. The surrounding vegetation is predominantly Mopane, but the Letaba River is lined with large trees, including a very large Baobab, after which Shimuwini was named.
Accommodation is in self-catering cottages.
No shop and no restaurant facilities.” -
