The historical village of Dordabis was established in the early 20s by August Stauch who purchased the Dordabis, Ibenstein and Protea farms to develop as a trade centre. Stauch had originally established a diamond claim at Kolmanskop outside Lüderitz in 1908. His daughter Marianne, and her husband Nicolai Krafft, started Karakul sheep farming and opened the first carpet weavery in Namibia on the farm Ibenstein.
Dordabis mostly serves the farming community which is focused on hunting or livestock farming.

There is a fuel station.
Take note: Garage or Petrol cards will no longer be accepted as a legal tender for purchase of fuel, spares or repairs in Namibia. Cash, Debit and Credit cards are accepted at most fuel stops in the larger and touristy towns. Just always take extra cash with in case they only accept cash!
The contact number for the town clinic is +264(0)62 513 516. It is a good state clinic. Hours are 08h00-17h00, but in case of emergency you can contact the sister who stays next door.
A local backyard mechanic, Eddy Krems, can help with tyre and mechanical repairs. Ask at the fuel station or contact him on +264(0)81 129 7490.
A few small shops.
Dordabis store: +264(0)62 573 500.
Dordabis is 90km from Windhoek and easily reached by sedan vehicle on a tarred road. The general dealer sells bread and frozen meat, but availability of produce cannot be guaranteed. Rather stock up in larger towns or call ahead to check on availability.
