The City of Aswan, is a popular tourist spot in Egypt, and the sunniest southern city, beautifully situated on the east bank of the Nile. It is small enough to travel by foot, with the main attraction being the Aswan Bazaar with its many souvenir shops. In Aswan the Nile is at its most beautiful, and has spectacular sunsets. At night Nubian dancers and musicians perform in the Cultural Center. You can also go for a cruise on the Nile to Aswan Dam, built by the British and opened in 1971. The dam provides Egypt with most of its electricity. Aswan is more of a winter resort, as it gets very hot in summer, and is one of the driest populated places in the world.

“Aswan (3rd largest city in Egypt) with the most beautiful setting on the Nile, lies about 130 km south of Luxor. There are important archaeological sites like the Temple of Philae, on Agilkia Island near the Aswan Dam, in the immediate vicinity. ” - Chris Smit, 2016/04/25
