The Cape Peninsula forms the most southern point of Africa and juts out into the Atlantic Ocean. There are signs showing that millions of years ago this area was an island. It was then joined to the mainland by the sandy area that emerged from the sea, now known as the Cape Flats. The rocky Peninsula creates for a breathtaking scenic drive, with white sandy beaches, steep mountain passes and secluded coves. At the most southern end of the Peninsula you find Cape Point and the Cape of Good Hope, and the City centre with Table Mountain as a backdrop at the northern end. From Table Mountains you get the most magnificent views of the Peninsula. Interesting places dotted along the coastline include the popular suburb Sea Point, the trendy Camps Bay area and the pretty little fishing village of Hout Bay.
