The Mabuasehube Game Reserve was also incorporated into the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park between Botswana and South Africa. Mabuasehube means red earth and it is named after the red Kalahari sand.
All campsites are overlooking one of the few pans in this otherwise dry area. The pans fill with water during the rainy season and their hard surface layer ensures that the water remains in the pans and is not immediately absorbed.
These pans are of great importance to the wildlife, which obtain valuable nutrients from the salts and the grasses of the pans.
