The Limpopo National Park is part of the Great Limpopo Trans Frontier Park (GLTP) it comprises three parks namely the Kruger National Park (KNP) in South Africa, the Gonarezhou National Park in Zimbabwe and Parque Nacional do Limpopo (PNL) in Mozambique which was proclaimed in November 2001. It was previously used as a hunting zone and covers an area of 1,123,316 ha, and is more or less half the size of the Kruger National Park. The park officially opened to the public in August 2005.

ACCESS FROM SOUTH AFRICA:
Travelling outside the park from South Africa you can gain access from the KNP Letaba Camp which is 45m from the Giriyondo gate.
Access to the park is through the Giriyondo Border Gate which opening times are 1 April to 30 September 08:00-15:00 or from 1 October to 31 March 08:00-16:00, Pafuri Border Gate times are 08:00 - 16:00, Massingir Park Entrance Gate times are 06:00 - 18:00, Mapai Park Entrance Gate times are 06:00 - 18:00.
ACCOMMODATION:
There are a variety of overnight facilities in the park. (22-Sept-11).
BORDER CONTROL:
There are certain tourists' allowance limits like tobacco products, alcoholic drinks, perfumes, pharmaceutical products and other foods.
GIRIYONDO TO MASSINGIR:
There is a 70km distance between Giriyondo and Massingir and will take about 1 hours' drive. There are speed bumps and also be cautious as Elephants use the road as well.
INSURANCE:
It is compulsory to get Third party vehicle insurance which is obtainable from PNL at Giriyondo and Massingir gate and costs R150 for 30days.
MASSINGIR:
The town Massingir is located 6km from the Massingir Gate and offers basic shops for Airtime, Drinks, Bread rolls or Pau and Fuel, Bank with ATM (Mt currency).
The shops accept cash only certain shops accept South African Rands.
MONEY INFO:
Always carry enough cash.
ROAD CONDITIONS:
When travelling in the park the main access road between Giriyondo and Massingir is accessible by a sedan vehicle. Almost all the other roads require high ground clearance or 4x4 vehicles and during the wet season 4x4 is essential.
It is advisable to have a GPS as the roads are not signposted or well developed.
SAFETY:
Some safety tips for travelling in the park, keep to the speed limit as there are active traffic officers and the roads are surfaced but in the community's there are potholes and livestock.
Ensure you reach your destination before sunset which between 17:00 in winter and 18:30 in summer.
SPEED LIMITS:
The speed limit in the park is 40km/hour.
VEHICLE REGULATIONS:
All vehicles must be equipped with a reflective triangle and at least one yellow reflective jacket, if your being towed you must display a blue and yellow triangle on the front of your vehicle as well as on the back of the trailer/caravan.
