The Overberg is one of seven regions making up the Western Cape and it's the most southern tip of Africa. The Overberg has beautiful nature scenes with mountains, rivers and blue oceans making this a very popular region to visit. It is also an area dotted with pretty little towns with plenty of character and history. It is mostly wheat farming in the area and then fruit from Elgin Valley. Elgin is the second largest supplier of fruit in South Africa. One of the most popular destinations in the Overberg is the town of Hermanus. It is the best land based whale watching spot in the world, and with its beautiful beaches it is usually packed over summer holidays. Other towns to visit in the region includes Greyton with its many art galleries and relaxed atmosphere, the Casino, Hotel and Spa in Caledon and the most Southern town in Africa, L'Agulhas. Here the Indian Ocean and the Atlantic Ocean meets and its known for its stormy waters and weather conditions. (Updated Dec-15)
