Travelling Information

ROAD CONDITIONS:
Expect to go slow the first eastern half of the route. At one section the road is heavily eroded which could be difficult for a novice driver, and a problem for soft roaders. (May-2015).

“I did this trail recently (May 15), quite spectacular and well worth it. Particularly impressive are the sandstone formations, it rivals that what you would see in the Cedarberg. The going is slow and arduous, especially on the first eastern half of the route, expect to average less than 5km/h. And allow 5-6 hours overall. One particular section about 17km's in is severely eroded and could prove problematic for novice drivers and may be impassible for a soft-roader. I was driving by myself in a kitted-out 79 series and need to spend a few minutes assessing how best to tackle it, shuffling some rocks to aid me along. There is also a side route that takes you right to the exit at the southern gate, towards Montagu. T4A didn't calculate this route initially, so best to ask the ranger upon registering for directions and to see whether its passable after rains.” - Christopher Malcolm, 2015/05/14
