Lealui is the summer palace of the Litunga, the Lozi king, and visitors can only visit by obtaining prior permission. At the end of summer, the Litunga moves from Lealui to Limulunga, where he spends winter on higher grounds to avoid the seasonal flooding of the Barotse Floodplains, where Lealui is situated. The move is marked by the Kuamboka ceremony, an important event in Lozi culture. (May-19)

“A massive bridge has been constructed across the Barotsi Floodplain of the Zambezi River, all the way between Mongu and Katonga. If you zoom in on Google Earth, you can actually see the lengthy bridge. There is a special section that leads to the Lozi king's palace at Lealui.” - Mietsie Visser, 2016/06/22
“Crossing the 50km wide Barotsi Floodplain of the Zambezi River is only possible when it has dried off completely and even then one has to cross muddy water channels. In August 2010 we could not find a campsite in Mongu en route to Liuwa Plains, and drove to the Lozi King's Winter Palace where we asked permission to overnight. The friendly Lozi people looked after us and allowed us to camp at there school. The headmaster even allowed us to charge our camera batteries!” - Mietsie Visser, 2012/05/30
