Border Post between Zambia and Angola. The border is located near Chavuma, North West of the Zambezi town. Chavuma borders with Caripande Border post on the Angolan side. Border operation hours are between 07h00-18h00 (GMT+2) Time Guideline.

The Chavuma / Caripande border post is located on Zambia’s northwestern border near the Chavuma Water-falls on the Zambezi River. The town of Chavuma is accessible on tar but once you turn north towards the border post you’ll be on a gravel road which could require an off-road vehicle. In any case, once in Angola an off-road vehicle is definitely required. Although both customs and immigrations are present on both sides, this is a small, seldom-used border post so you might have to wait for the border post officials to be fetched from the nearby village before you can proceed with formalities.

BORDER INFORMATION:
Reportedly border officials wanted to see the engine number of each vehicle, stamped onto the engine. A small printed plate in the engine or on the dashboard was not acceptable, they wanted to physically see the stamp on the engine block and on the chassis. After a police clearance certificate was issued, the traveller was allowed through. (2008).

ROAD CONDITIONS:
A 4x4 vehicle is highly recommended along this route. There may be flooding in some parts of the roads, where there would be deep water crossing on a small bridge.
