Rainy season is November - March. Prebooking is preferred but not essential. Self-drive option is very popular in Namibia. Main road conditions excellent. Tarred & gravel roads to lodge; RiverDance is unaffected by seasonal flooding; note that roads get slippery during the rainy season. (Sep-12). Reportedly highly recommended! (Mar-14).
Do not speed even if distances become lengthy; be on the lookout for cattle, goats and dogs; also note that some villages are closely situated next to the road so be extra careful for pedestrians and especially small children; do ensure that your vehicle is road worthy and that you have your drivers license with you at all times; note that you are allowed to bring in animal products through the Mururani Gate (130km before Rundu) but that you are not allowed to take out any animal products from the area as it is classified as a 'foot & mouth' disease control point. When you enter Namibia through Botswana you are also not allowed any animal products into Namibia - it will be confiscated; you cannot buy petrol with a visa/master card, only with cash & or a petrol card, a petrol card will only be issued to you if you are a s resident/citizen, so ensure that you withdraw enough cash. Also note a lot of establishments i.e. accommodations do not have credit card facility due to lack of telecommunications, so make sure beforehand and draw enough cash. (Sept-12).
“There are 4 private campsites each with its own kitchen and bathroom. They are all shady with beautiful lawns to camp on.The sites are very popular and pre-booking suggested. Campsite 1 is the largest and has a floating deck on which one can sit on the river, or watch the sunset etc.” - Mietsie Visser, 2014/05/13
