Magistrate M Jackson and his police force spent the night of 27 December 1868 under this camel thorn tree on route to the areas of unrest along the lower orange river. During the following Koranna disturbances this spot became the most remote administrative police and military headquarters in the North-Western Cape. The tree is estimated to be between 500 and 600 years old.
