The established source of the Zambezi has been proclaimed a National Monument Site. The official source is a spring that discharges water at around 30 litres per second and appears like a little puddle of water amongst the leaves. However, at this viewpoint, barely 3km from the source, it has formed into a stream about two metres wide.
You will cross official border markings, zigzagging into the DRC, to reach this point. You can park your vehicle safely at this small village and walk a few metres to the viewpoint.
This mighty river, 2 574km long, flows through Zambia, Angola, Namibia, Botswana and Zimbabwe before it disperses into the Indian Ocean via its enormous delta in Mozambique.
