“Gydo Pass lies on the Regional road R303 between Ceres and Citrusdal about 10km north of Prince Alfred Hamlet, in the Western Cape, province of South Africa. The pass. between the Skurweberg and Gydoberg, was built in 1848 by Andrew Geddes Bain to link the Warm Bokkeveld with the Cold Bokkeveld to the North. The name ‘Gydo’ is of Khoi origin and is means ‘steep pass’, or ‘milkbush poort’ after a species of euphorbia that was prevalent in this region. ” - Chris Smit, 2014/04/13
